One of the best things about Playas Del coco is that you’re close to many beautiful places. We have the beach, waterfall, rivers and you can do something different every day. My family and I have a deep affection for our visits to Arenal Volcano and the magnificent lake next to. Arenal Volcano is undeniably one of the most sought-after destinations in Costa Rica, captivating the hearts of both locals and foreigners alike. The landscape is simply breathtaking, adorned with lush rainforests and cascading waterfalls.

Arenal Lake is the largest lake in the country, offers an array of memorable experiences. During our visit, we embarked on a leisurely boat trip across the serene waters, humorously attempting to outwit the elusive “guapote” fish for a good three hours – although, I must admit, the fish proved to be quite the cunning opponent! Despite our epic fishing battle, we savored a day of tranquility and natural beauty that left us rejuvenated. If you seek a more adventurous pursuit, windsurfing is also on the menu.

Unbeknownst to many, the depths of the lake once cradled a thriving town, and today, Arenal Lake plays a pivotal role in supplying 40% of the energy consumed in Costa Rica. This fact alone attests to the area's economic and ecological significance.

Playas Del Coco, Costa Rica

Playas del Coco is one of Costa Rica’s most popular beaches. Located in the Guanacaste region, near Liberia’s International Airport, Playas del Coco is the largest beach village in the province, with great tourism infrastructure, good roads and plenty of hotels, restaurants, bars and shops.

Playas del Coco is a favorite for both Costa Ricans and foreigners looking for ongoing ‘fiesta’ beach-style. It is busiest during Easter week, late November and December, when most Ticos take their holidays. Great nightlife can be found in the bars near the town’s central plaza, as well as in casino and discos throughout the area.

Surrounded by steep cliffs and hills, Coco Beach is the ideal place to have some fun. Facilities such as markets and shops are abundant from end-to-end of town as well as affordable lodging, attracting a great number of budget travelers year round. However, luxury resorts can also be found in the Coco area.

Apart from Playas del Coco’s boisterous environment, visitors can also find here a wide variety of ocean activities, including sport fishing, scuba diving and snorkeling. It is also a convenient start point for surfers heading to the popular beaches of Witch’s Rock and Ollie’s Point.

A few minutes away from Playas del Coco is Marino Las Baulas National Park. This amazing park supports the largest nesting colony of leatherback sea turtles (Baulas) on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, with a population size of about 800 female turtles nesting per year. Visitors may be lucky enough to admire mass turtle nesting from November through April.

From Playas del Coco you can also head out to Catalinas and Bat Islands, as well as Pelonas Islands. These are excellent spots for watching turtles, sharks and even octopuses in their natural habitat.

Tourism is the largest industry, starting to grow in the 1990s. Due to its good infrastructure, it quickly became a hub for tourism and business activities.

In July, Fiesta Del Virgen Del Mar is celebrated which has a religious fervor to it. Playas del Coco is essentially is party place with a very active diving and snorkeling community. Sailing or Catamarin tour: People will be picked up, normally the boat will leave from the coconut beaches, then you will go snorkeling to a beach of crystal clear water, include fruits and drinks .

Skimboard: Learn to skimboard with some of the best riders in Cost Rica. They will meet on the beach for some fun skimboard lessons. Learn the basics of getting on the board on the sand and then learn to catch some waves on the shore.

Surf Trip Witch's Rock & Ollie's Point: Full day surf trip from Playas del Coco to 2 very famous surfing spots. They will take you to 2 unique surf breaks: Witches Rock and Ollie’s Point. All levels are welcome to join. The boat ride lasts around one hour depending on the water conditions.

Kayak & Snorkel with Local Experts: The day begins bright and early. They begin by meeting and greeting each other at the beach, loading our essentials on the kayak, quick briefing, and off you go! Then 1 mile journey to a beautiful secluded beach.
